Child and Adolescent Therapy

  • Through individual therapy, children and teens can learn to express and cope with their feelings more effectively. Dr. Aberle uses a relational approach in work with clients, and views a safe therapeutic relationship as being fundamental to progress. Additionally, she employs evidence-based approaches to help young people develop skills that will help them overcome challenges, and become better able to self-regulate.

Dr. Aberle is trained and experienced in play-based therapies and offers play therapy services in her practice. Children communicate their feelings and experiences through play, so this service is ideal for younger clients or those who are still becoming comfortable with verbally expressing their internal experiences.

  • All individuals exist and develop in the context of multiple systems of influence. The impacts of these systems are particularly salient during childhood and adolescence. Parent/Caregiver Guidance is often a component of treatment, particularly for younger children.

Parents/caregivers are the experts on their own children, and Dr. Aberle collaborates with parent/caregivers to understand children’s behaviors and emotional needs. Her approach to working with caregivers is supportive and collaborative.

Childhood and adolescence are rapid periods of growth that can be both exciting and challenging. Kids and teens are developing socially, emotionally, and cognitively and have a vast array of new experiences everyday. Many young people benefit from psychotherapy to help identify and process feelings associated with these new experiences. Once they can learn to identify what they are experiencing and feeling, they can more effectively use strategies for self-regulation. Dr. Aberle works with children and teens experiencing a range of presenting concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety

  • Peer/social issues

  • Challenges with new developmental transitions (e.g. family system changes, school transitions, etc.)

  • Depression

  • Trauma/PTSD
